Emma Mutz

Hi! My name is Emma Mutz and I am from Lebanon, TN. I attended GSSE in 2018 and will be a sophomore at Emory University in the fall! I am majoring in Psychology with an Economics minor on the Premed track. I am currently involved in women’s varsity soccer, SPEAR (the prison reform club on campus), and am running for SGA President (fingers crossed!). After graduation, I plan to attend medical school and eventually become a surgeon or teacher! I currently work for the Intramural program at my school and for a local church. I am so excited to meet all of you and make your time at GSSE the best it possibly can be!


Nathenael Hundie

My name is Nathenael Hundie, and I am from Clarksville, Tennessee. I will be a freshman at Harvard College this fall and will be studying physics. I have been looking forward to being a resident assistant for the Governor’s School for Sciences and Engineering for the past two years. After attending this program two years ago, it remains one of my best life experiences, and I am extremely excited to be a resident assistant this year. Having been president of my high school’s Science National Honor Society and conducted genomics research at the Broad Institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts, I am extremely passionate about STEM subjects. Outside of my love for STEM, I love listening to hip hop and R/B music. I also enjoy reading books and traveling. I look forward to meeting with all of you this summer. 


Elijah Ballew

What’s up guys, my name is Elijah Ballew, and I’ll be a second year at Georgia Tech in the fall. I’m currently double majoring in Aerospace Engineering and Physics, and I intend to concentrate in Astrophysics. I’m from Seymour, TN, and I love listening to music and playing Madden. I’m excited to see y’all in June!


Aysha Mann

My name is Aysha Mann, and I am from Jackson, TN. I am a rising sophomore at Mississippi State University with a major in Biomedical Engineering. I am also in the Shackouls Honors College. With my major, I plan to work at a childrens’ hospital and focus on regenerative medicine. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, playing with my 5 pets, and watching sports. I’m so excited to learn, explore, and to have a great, memorable time. I can’t wait to meet everyone!


Mikyla Smith

Hey guys, my name is Mikyla Smith, and I’m a Mechanical Engineering major at Mississippi State University. I attended GSSE in 2018, and it changed my life and plays a huge role in why I decided to pursue an engineering degree. Ever since I left, I knew I wanted to come back and contribute in some way, so I’m super excited to be an RA! Can’t wait to meet y’all!


Tarek Atyia

My name is Tarek Atyia and I’m from Johnson City, TN   I’m a Sophomore at UTK in the college of arts and sciences with a major of BCMB and a minor in Computer Science. The plan is to go to medical school and become a surgeon of some kind and develop new methods of surgery that are less risk driven and more effective. In my free time, you can catch me playing games on my PC, video editing, coding, playing any kind of sport or woodworking.


Cordell Davis

I am a graduating senior this Spring at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. I will be receiving my BS in Mechanical Engineering. I am originally from Memphis, TN. I have been a part of the National Society of Black Engineers and The Black Student Association for the past four years. I participated in GSSE my junior year in high school, and I learned so much being a part of this experience. I look forward to meeting and learning from you all!


Thomas Patterson

Hey Guys! My name is Thomas Paterson and I will be a sophomore in the Chancellor’s Honors Program at the University of Tennessee in the fall. I am studying Biomedical Engineering, which I would really like to use to work with prosthetics in the future. I was born in Jackson, Mississippi, but I have spent almost my whole life here in Knoxville. In my spare time, I enjoy going outside and hunting, fishing, or rock climbing. Playing soccer is my favorite pastime (I play with the club here at UT) but I’ll try just about any sport out there. I got the chance to go to GSSE a couple of years ago and it was a fantastic experience. I can’t wait to be a part of that for you guys in June!


Kristi Cao

Hi! My name is Kristi Cao, and I am from Knoxville, TN. I am a recent graduate of The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. During my years at UTK, I was a RA for 3 years and for the last semester of my college career, I was the Assistant Hall Director in Stokely Hall. I am forever grateful for the memories and opportunities that UTK gave me. I am passionate to serving students during their college journey. I am planning to return to grad school next fall to obtain my master’s degree in College Student Personnel. I am extremely excited for this opportunity! See you all soon and GO VOLS!


Deanna Riley

Hello! My name is Deanna, and I am a rising junior from Spring Hill, TN! I am currently studying Neuroscience and Hispanic Studies at the University of Tennessee with the aspiration to become a pediatrician! I am a member of the Haslam Scholars Program as well as other organizations, such as the Student Alumni Associates and the Honors and Scholars Multicultural Inclusion Council. When I’m not working or studying, I enjoy crocheting, doing DIY-projects, and listening to music. Last year was my first year as an RA on campus, and I am very excited to get to begin my first experience as an RA for GSSE! I cannot wait to meet and connect with all of you very soon!


Natalie Savage (OIT Student Support)

Hi! My name is Natalie Savage, and I am from Knoxville, TN. I will be a sophomore at UTK this year with a major in BCMB on a pre med track. In my freetime I enjoy spending time at the Christian Student Center on campus and performing outreach activities. Over the past 2 years I have been a part of the Hope Central program to encourage young kids through tutoring. I currently work at the OIT front desk to help answer any questions people may have about getting computer help. I am so excited to be able to meet you all, and I look forward to being able to help in any way possible!
