Your NetID and Volmail Account
Students have been assigned a NetID which was included in an email sent on May 13. Students have also been assigned a UT ID number which was also included in the May 13 email. Please use this information to setup NetID passwords and to login to Volmail email accounts. This is very important as instructors will communicate with students via UTK Volmail email accounts. Some may even ask students to complete assignments before arrival to campus. Begin checking this email address now! Instructions on how to setup NetID’s and Volmail accounts can be found on this page here (steps 1-4).

After setting up the NetID password and logging into Volmail, please be sure to check for emails from “Instructure Canvas <>” inviting you to participate in a course. Please be sure to accept the invitations as your course instructors will be using these sites during the duration of GSSE.

COVID-19 Policy
UPDATE: As you may know, CDC guidance has been shifting quickly as it relates to masks and social distancing for COVID-19 vaccinated adults. The UTK campus has also been adjusting its requirements to reflect the new guidance. While masks are not required for fully vaccinated adults on the UTK campus, we are aware that many of our GSSE students were too young to receive the vaccine until recently. Therefore, masks may still be required for our unvaccinated students. Due to the change of policy on UT’s campus, GSSE students are no longer required to complete the “Return to Campus” orientation. That material is no longer available to students and will not be required. Guidance on these policies are changing rapidly, so we appreciate your patience as we navigate the shift in policies.  We will do our best to communicate these changes to you in a timely manner.

**The below are current policies but could change to be more or less restrictive based on amended campus policies and COVID-19 cases

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the University of Tennessee will expect all Governor’s School students to adhere to the policies set by our campus and state leaders.  Some of these policies will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Students will be required to produce either proof of a negative COVID-19 test performed no earlier than one week prior to arriving on campus or proof of having received a COVID-19 immunization – complete the form here to complete this requirement
  • Students and parents will need to complete a “Return to Campus” orientation on COVID-19 policies prior to arriving on campusno longer required
  • Student attendees will be housed in private rooms with private bathrooms. **unless loosened restrictions allow double occupancy at a later date
  • Students will not be allowed to entertain guests in the residence halls.
  • Students will be expected to wear face masks, practice social distancing, and complete daily self-health screenings.
  • Students who are identified as a close contact, exhibit symptoms of, or test positive for COVID-19 will be required to return home.
  • Students who do not adhere to campus safety policies will be asked to return home.
